Gaylord Jackson Perry (September 15, 1938-December 1, 2022) was the first pitcher to win the CY Young Award in both leagues when he won it in Cleveland in 1972 and again in San Diego in 1978. As is the case with most pitchers, Gaylord was less than adept at the plate, so much so manager Al Dark quipped in 1963, Theyll put a man on the moon before he hits a home runs.
